I won’t make you guess this time – I’ll just tell you to watch Andrelton Simmons this year. He’s a young prospect for the Braves, and they’ve got quite a track record of finding guys who outperform. Looking at this still, you can see Andrelton is slightly built and tends to collapse his upper body out over the plate too much. This causes him to lose a bit of power potential, and opens him up to being beat up in the zone.
All that being said, WOW – from the waist down, that’s picture perfect. Hips almost 90 degrees open, weight completely driven into the front-side, the tip of the back toe is on the ground, but no weight is resting on the back foot whatsoever. Andrelton’s back knee is in vertical alignment with his back hip & shoulder. Arms bent, top hand to the sky, and that barrel is clearly going to power right through the baseball.
